Tower Vortx Air Fryer
Here we look at the Tower Vortx air fryer (model number: 17038). This is a bit similar to other air fryers we’ve reviewed in that it features multiple shelves and a rotating system for rotisserie cooking. It is a digital air fryer oven with some neat features we’ll come onto shortly.
The “Vortx” branding is Tower’s name for the rapid air circulation system air fryers use to cook food. This air circulation results in faster cooking than conventional ovens, with Tower claiming it’s 30% faster.
Whether you’ve got hungry teenagers or smaller children, they’ll all love the food you conjure up with this oven fryer. With its 11-litre cooking capacity, it can serve meals for the entire family.
Features
60-minute timer with a shut-off feature
There’s a 60-minute timer which can be adjusted via the manual control dial at the top of the unit. The dial is smooth to rotate, and time markers are easy to view. 60 minutes is usually enough to cook most foods, but if you need longer, the timer dial can be easily adjusted. When the timer ticks down to zero, the unit has an automatic shut-off function.
Adjustable Temperature control
The temperature can also be controlled per your requirements and is operated via a manual dial on the top of the fryer.
Shelves
It comes with 3 mesh air-flow racks/shelves, allowing you to cook different foods on each shelf if you wish. The hot air circulation ensures food items on each shelf are cooked evenly. We found the shelf at the top of the oven gave the best results in terms of crispier textures.
Rotisserie bar
If you want to cook a whole chicken or a joint of meat, then you’ll like the rotisserie feature. This will slowly rotate your food items 350 degrees for even, efficient cooking, and it looks cool too! Your family will love your rotisserie chickens in no time.
Oil drip tray
When cooking with rotisserie, the oil will drip from the food you’re cooking. Tower has thought about cleaning up, so they’ve designed a removal oil drip tray that can be removed and cleaned easily.
Viewing window
There is a see-through window on the front of the using so you can keep an eye on how things are cooking. There’s also an internal light which illuminates the inside well. This light doesn’t remain on permanently but can be switched on by pressing a button on top of the unit.
Cooking Presets
There are several preset cooking programmes built in which make cooking even easier for you. Simply select the type of food you’re cooking, press the relevant preset and off you go, the Vortx will care of the temperature and time needed to cook the food. Once the cooking cycle is complete, there’s an audible alert to let you know.
Warranty
You get a generous warranty with the Vortx 17038. As standard, you get a 1-year warranty, but if you register your purchase within 28 days, you also get an additional 2 years, giving you 3 years of peace of mind.
There’s a choice of colours available, including Rose Gold, Grey and Black. Not all fryers come with a choice of colours, so it’s good you have that option here.
If you’re wondering whether this unit will fit on your worktop space, then here are the dimensions:
33.9 x 32.4 x 38.2 cm (L x W x H)
If you like fish and chips, you’ll enjoy the Vortx. Using the different shelves, you can cook chips on one and your fish on the other. Unlike other air fryers, you don’t have to cook them together in the same basket or bowl.
The health benefits of eating air-fried food are obvious. Less calorie intake whilst at the same time being able to eat delicious fried food cooked with a fraction of the oil compared to that of deep frying.
Summing up
This is a surprisingly good air fryer which adds versatility to your cooking options thanks to the rotating rotisserie feature. It’s a wise choice if you’re looking to cook for the whole family and enjoy watching your food cook.
